urn:lj:livejournal.com:atom1:flanniel Flanniel Flanniel 2005-01-28T22:48:58Z urn:lj:livejournal.com:atom1:flanniel:8863 2005-01-28T22:28:18Z 2005-01-28T22:48:58Z the main problem with this site is that i can't post beethoven's symphonies, or stravinsky's firebird suite, or dvorak's american quartet, or glinka's russlan and ludmilla, or (most importantly) brahms's academic festival overture. this is a disturbing realization: by posting only lyrics i am robbing the music of its charm, its soul. as a result i shall have to kill this site after all. it completely doesn't work as i wanted it to...i have it all in my memory anyway, and i have the music and emotions to go with it. i know those of you who read this generally don't have the melodies and intricacies, which is a depressing thought...i'm allowing you to deprive yourselves of the full effect of this art form that consumes me, in actuality defeating the purpose i was originally hoping to achieve. it's like putting love letters in email form...we miss out on the handwriting, smell, etc. when it's all on a screen. <br /><br />et avec ceci, je vous laisse:<br /><br /><br />saw my life this mornin' <br />lyin' at the bottom of a drawer <br />all this stuff i'm savin'... <br />god knows what this junk is for <br />and whatever i believed in <br />this is all i have to show <br />what the hell were all the reasons <br />for holding on for such dear life? <br />here's where i let go. <br /><br />-mary chapin carpenter
